Brownie is a sign writer by profession, trained in Sydney using the traditional method of brush and paint. He moved to Northern NSW in 1984 to set up his own sign writing business. The real sign writers like Brownie are unfortunately few and far between. Modern technology soon took over the sign industry. Even though Brownie’s sign writing business still holds strong in northern NSW, the computer age continues to dominate the market. To keep the brush alive and develop his own style, he has pursued his love of painting. Firstly for family and friends, and after much encouragement, is launching himself as a commercial artist.
Brownie’s works are inspired by genres close to his heart like surf, music and indigenous cultures. His paintings have been displayed locally at Art to Art and Just Funkin Music in Ballina and at the A.I Hall in Bangalow every market Sunday.
