Mesha’s studio is surrounded by nature and animals. Her affinity with the unadulterated presence of her animals and the countryside create a springboard for the embracing attitude in her art.
Mesha seems to paint the connectivity that arises from both her immediate surroundings and an inner more global Zen consciousness.
Mesha Sendyk’s Artful Abstraction
A review by Bernadette Curtin
The abstract paintings of Mesha Sendyk reverberate with shrill calling, waves of colour and lightning thoughts.
These large format paintings cannot be ignored. They are noisy, accessible and seductive, each painting palpably rendering the artist’s delight in plumbing the physical and psychological potential of painting.
For the viewer, abstraction defies preconceived values and encourages further reassessment. In fact Sendyk’s paintings are investigative in nature.
The contemplative nature and mood of this series is in stark contrast to the dynamic movement in most other works. Here in these large paintings the viewer is allowed a brief interlude before being catapulted back into the frenetic day-to-day routine explored by the artist in other series where the wondrous chaos of a quantum world prevails.
Mesha Sendyk’s paintings at once encourage a journey inwards into sensations and emotions and an outward journey into the energetic dynamism of the physical universe.
Bernadette Curtin has a Master’s Degree in Fine Art from RMIT and she is a painter and teacher living on the Far North Coast of New South Wales.
