This exhibition presents a host of works from artists exhibited by the gallery from its opening in the middle of 2011. It endeavours to celebrate the diversity and quality represented by the work of these artists and introduce emerging artists whose work contributes similar qualities plus provide a glimpse of things to come in the gallery in 2012.
Diverse contemporary expression, content and artistic approach in different media by local artists Stuart Cussons, Marika Bryant, Shirley Miller, Lindsay Hunt, Robyn Whyte and Karyn Fendley.
The works of these artists showcase diverse themes ranging from celebration of the natural world to breathtaking simplicity reminiscent of early Modernism to biting satire directed at our modern world.
Sue Adler is an acclaimed photographer and artist who switched from painting to photography early in a career which has seen her work across four continents for more than 25 years.
Featuring the artwork of renowned Australian artists Yvonne Mills-Stanley, AnA Wojak, Elizabeth Doidge, Greg Mallyon, Kathleen Petyarre, Lily Kelly Napangardi and Josie Petrick Kemarre, this exhibition focuses on landscape - in detail, context, spirit and storyline.
Works from small to dramatic scale are on exhibit in the gallery's rear event space - out the back!
The title of this exhibition is drawn from the strong contemporary quality presented in the work of five local artists, the diversity of media, content and application and, cheekily, the geography of the gallery, with its front rooms given over to the exhibition.
"The Genuine Article" presents authentic thought expressed in original works by featured artists Yvonne Mills-Stanley, Elizabeth Doidge, Lindsay Hunt, Greg Mallyon, Liam Key and Stephanie Outridge Field. Works, content and media represent the diversity - and creativity - of our artists.
